Director of Zagreb Child and Youth Protection Center, professor Gordana Buljan Flander, PhD, held an online lecture “A Child at the Center of Conflict: High-Conflict Divorce and Alienation” as part of the education conducted by BHIDAPA (Bosnian-Herzegovinian Integrative Children and Adolescent Psychotherapy Association) on October 23, 2020. BHIDAPA conducts training entitled: “Virtual crisis interventions “Here&Now“ in cooperation with UNICEF BiH and with the support of the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden, in order to contribute to the protection and reduce the negative impact of the current health crisis on mental health of children, youth and their parents.
The education aims to empower professionals from different sectors (mental health centers, social welfare centers and educational institutions), in the application of virtual crisis interventions in working with children and families, respecting standards on child protection, during and after a pandemic. The module on the topic: “Violence against children – recognition and adequate response in order to protect children”, also included high-conflict divorces. The participants showed a special interest in this topic because it is a problem that they are increasingly facing in their institutions.
