Video “And this is us … in the digital environment” Youth Committee of the Zagreb Child and Youth Protection Center won the special jury award in the high school category at the film competition event “Our online life, about which parents do not know anything” organized by the Agency for Electronic Media, the UNICEF Office for Croatia and the Croatian Film Association as part of the 3rd Media Literacy Day. A total of 35 films were submitted – 25 in the primary school category and 10 in the secondary school category.
The jury composed of representatives of the organizers – Robert Tomljenović from the Agency for Electronic Media, Irena Domitrović from UNICEF, Sanja Zanki Pejić from the Croatian Film Association and Ana Dokler from the portal medijskapismenost.hr – chose the three best in both categories.
The aim of the competition was to encourage children and young people to talk about the experiences they or their peers are experiencing in a virtual environment and at the same time to raise awareness of adults, primarily parents. The deadline for film submissions was April 17th. Some of the films were reported in the first half of March, but some of them were completed or shot in full only after the introduction of coronavirus protection measures and the closure of schools.
“It is nice to see that the creativity of children and young people has not been reduced even in quarantine conditions. Although working on film is usually a team work, many have found great solutions and made good films without physical contact with their film crew “, commented Sanja Zanki Pejić, head of review and educational programs of the Croatian Film Association.
