Director of Child and Youth Protection Center, prof. dr. sc. Gordana Buljan Flander held a training course for directors of the Social Welfare Centres in Slovenia, held in Portorož on 5 October.

Prof. dr. sc. Buljan Flander gave a lecture about divorces with emphasis on high-conflict divorce. Directors have pointed out that experts at the Centers for Social Welfare in Slovenia work more and more with parents and children from high-conflict divorces and also expressed the problems encountered in practice.

Furthermore, there was lecture about parental manipulation of children in divorce. After the lecture, there was a discussion about the challenges and the specifics of work with the problem of manipulation in high-conflict divorces. During the discussion were compared similarities and differences of work patterns in Croatia and Slovenia.

In the context of seeking institutional help and support in cases of suspected abuse, Center for Social Welfare is often the first contact for parents and children and because of that prof. dr. sc. Gordana Buljan Flander held a lecture on conducting forensic interviews with children victims in investigative procedures as well as possibility to distinguish between true and false reports of child abuse in high-conflict divorces.

All participants concluded that except continuing education, a multidisciplinary approach and institutional cooperation, is actually imperative in work with children and parents.
