The Child Protection Center of Zagreb, headed by its Director, Prof. Gordana Buljan Flander, PhD, was invited to present the excellence of our Center on the scientific and professional First Symposium of Health Institutions of the City of Zagreb, held in the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb, on March 23, 2015.
Presentation of the excellence of health institutions founded by the City of Zagreb
Excellence of each health institution founded by the City of Zagreb was presented, as well as their professional, scientific and educational work, projects and programmes exceeding the standards in health protection services, in compliance with the Plan of Health Promotion and Prevention of Diseases, the Plan of Health Protection and strategies in the field of health care, like the strategy “Health for all”, conducted in the City of Zagreb according to the principles stated in the Declaration on Health in the City of Zagreb from 2001.
The Symposium was organised and held under the auspices of the City of Zagreb, organised by the City Department of Health and the Institute for Education in Emergency Medicine of the City of Zagreb. The Scientific Committee of the Symposium included the Head of the City Department of Health, Prof. Mirna Šitum, PhD, MD, her Deputy Gzim Redžepi, MD and Slavko Antolić, MD.
The aim of the Symposium was to improve the cooperation among 21 health institutions of Zagreb.
In her address to the participants, the Head of the City Department of Health, Prof. Mirna Šitum, PhD, MD emphasised the long scientific tradition and health service in Zagreb, developed with a large number of health institutions, out of which 21 institutions are in the ownership of the City of Zagreb, offering the citizens of Zagreb and the citizens of the Republic of Croatia health care organised in three levels of health protection which are mutually connected in scientific cooperation at the highest national level. She said that the aim of the Symposium was to additionally improve the great scientific and professional cooperation among 21 health institutions of Zagreb, and to improve their compatibility and relations with other entities of health protection owned by the Republic of Croatia.
Deputy of the Mayor of Zagreb, Sandra Švaljek expressed her belief that the Symposium was going to result in guidelines about the direction of further development of health services and everything that health institutions provide for the citizens of Zagreb. The Symposium was supported by the Minister of Health, Siniša Varga, who said that on the map of Croatian health, Zagreb was the most important part, since the most important health institutions were concentrated in Zagreb, with a significant part of these institutions owned by the City of Zagreb.
In the introductory part of the Symposium, the Head of the City Department of Health, Prof. Mirna Šitum, PhD, MD in her plenary lecture delivered the presentation of the health situation in the City of Zagreb, which was followed by all city health institutions presenting their work, organised according to the level of health protection in three sections of the Symposium: the primary, the secondary, and the tertiary.
Monograph “Health Institutions of the City of Zagreb in Practice and in Science”
The excellence of the Child Protection Center of Zagreb was presented within the section Secondary health protection with the members of the Working Committee: Slavko Antolić, MD, Prof. Gordana Buljan Flander, PhD, and Igor Filipčić, PhD, MD, Assistant Professor.
Director of the Child Protection Center, Prof. Gordana Buljan Flander, PhD, delivered a lecture “Multidisciplinary Approach in the Prevention and Protection of Traumatised Children”, presenting the specifics of work with sexually abused children and work at the Center, recognised as a model of best practice in Europe and the world.
The monograph “Health Institutions of the City of Zagreb in Practice and in Science”, edited by Prof. Mirna Šitum, PhD, MD, the Head of the City Department of Health, was presented at the Symposium and the reviewers, the former Minister of Health, Neven Ljubičić, and the President of the Croatian Medical Chamber, Željko Krznarić talked about the monograph. The monograph presents the work of all health institutions of the City of Zagreb as well as their interrelations and cooperation aiming at the improvement of health, ecology and preventive medicine, for the first time comprising presentations of all Zagreb health institutions work.
“Multidisciplinary Approach in the Prevention and Protection of Traumatised Children” written by Prof. Gordana Buljan Flander, PhD and Ana Marija Španić, psychologist of the Child Protection Center of Zagreb is published in the monograph in full length. It presents the specific details of Center’s work through multidisciplinarity in diagnostics and treatment of children and their parents, research and scientific work, education, publishing and forensics as well as the cooperation of the Center with other child protection institutions, which all led to the Center being recognised as a model of best practice in Croatia and Europe, shown by numerous recognitions for the work of its professionals in the prevention and protection of traumatised children.
