The 22nd Meeting of Social Workers was held in Niš, from 19 to 21 October 2016. The focus of this meeting was the challenges of growing up in the world of modern technologies. This international meeting was organised by the Social Welfare Centre St. Sava and it gathered many professionals from the region.
The President of the Organisational Committee, Zoran Jović, expressed satisfaction with the professional dialogue among social care professionals about the adjustments and improvements of the methods of their work with clients in the modern society and its challenges.
The Child and Youth Protection Centre was represented by Mia Roje and Dominik Šmida, psychologists. Mia Roje delivered an invited lecture under the title “New Technologies, New Forms of Violence”, in which she presented the advantages and potential dangers of modern technologies in child development, with a special emphasis on cyberbullying – abuse via the Internet. Dominik Šmida presented the experience of the Centre and the Brave Phone in cases of children’s self-harming in the modern society.
Our colleagues in Niš showed a great interest in the work of our institution. Further cooperation is planned through lectures, participating in conferences and study visits to the Child and Youth Protection Centre of the City of Zagreb.
