The Child and Youth Protection Center of Zagreb cooperates with the Slovenian Family Institute of Bližina for many years now. This institute, in co-operation with Association of Marital and Family Therapists of Slovenia, organized the professional training by our director Prof. Sc. D. Gordana Buljan Flander, which was held at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Ljubljana last weekend, 30th November and 1st December 2018.
As part of the “Methods and techniques of forensic interviews with a child who was a victim of sexual abuse”, the director presented scientific findings related to the nature of trauma of child abuse and child development. Emphasis was put on strategies for adapting the forensic examination process of children to scientifically based protocols, with the aim of preventing retraumatization of the child and obtaining forensically valid information.
The education was attended by Slovenian experts in the field of children social care, psychologists, psychiatrists and family therapists. The participants recognized the seminar as extremely useful to those who encounter sexually abused children in their professional practice. This type of education in Slovenia helps raise awareness of the consistent application of mechanisms in reducing traumatization.
