The ceremony of signing the Agreement on strategic partnership in establishing the safe internet was held at the General Police Directorate on 5 June 2012. The Minister of the Interior, Ranko Ostojić, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Public Administration, Darko Parić, CARnet Director, Zvonimir Stanić, Dean of the Polytechnic of Zagreb, Slavica Ćosović Bajić, Prof., Ph.D.,Vice-president of the Association Learning Companions, Lidija Kralj, Director of the Personal Data Protection Agency, Dubravko Bilić and Director of the Child Protection Center of Zagreb, Gordana Buljan Flander, Assoc. Prof., Ph. D.
The role of new communication technologies and the internet has been undisputable, but their misuse, harming the most vulnerable groups of the society – children and youth, often leading to harmful effects, was emphasised during the presentation of the activities in child and youth protection on the internet to be conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and partners, including the Child Protection Center of Zagreb.
Reasons for establishing and aims of the Safe Internet Center were also presented, comprising designing, adjusting and consolidating the existing materials about internet safety of children, youth, parents and teachers; joint promotion of online and information safety; providing simple online reporting of illegal, harmful and dangerous content and activities; advocating institutionalised introduction of online and information safety into the educational system, etc. One of the editors of the Safe Internet Center is Marija Krmek, psychologist of the Child Protection Center of Zagreb.
