Bichon Havanese dogs Evie and Heidi, trained for the needs of children and youth of the socially vulnerable groups (AAI, AAT), have been working with a certified dog guide Renata Fridrih, educator – speech therapist, since 21 March 2017. The dogs were trained according to the holistic approach where the dog is in partnership with the guide, and their behaviour signals children's needs while participating in working with them. Dogs work individually, in pairs and in groups of children. Their work in the project is conducted on the principle one dog – more clients.
On October 5, 2018. violence among children was the topic of the “On the Daily” of LibertasTV Dubrovnik television, where the guest was Director of Child and Youth Protection Center Prof. Sc. D. Gordana Buljan Flander. When asked by the editor Dajana Brzica why is there so much violence among the children today, the director said:
“I think there are many reasons, one of which is that children are surrounded by violence, it’s us adults who are offering them violent heroes. When violence occurs between adults and children, we often react only when there is physical injury and physical violence. Violent children, violent adults, they get the covers. A child who has received a prize at a competition in mathematics gets three rows on the last page. Movies are full of violence as well as video games, and some research shows that parents spend 10 minutes a day with their children. In 10 minutes, they do not even get to do anything at all, let alone educate children or talk about violence.
