The theme for the 17th Informal ASEM (Asia-Europe Foundation) Seminar on Human Rights was “Human Rights and Children”. Hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, the event took place on 7-9 November 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria, bringing together civil society experts and government representatives from 51 Asian and European countries, the European Union and the ASEAN Secretariat, to discuss the promotion and protection of the rights of the child.
Dr. Steven W.Kairys, the Head of the Paediatric Department of Children’s Hospital K.Hovnanian and a professor of paediatrics at R. Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, the USA, visited the Child Protection Centre of Zagreb on 20 April 2015.
Dr. Kairys, an expert in the field of traumatised and abused child protection, within his study visit activities, was at the Centre with his collaborator, professor Sc.D., Aida Mujkić, the Head of the Department of Social Medicine and Health Protection Organisation at the Faculty of Medicine and Public Health School “Andrija Štampar”.
Work of the Centre was presented by Domagoj Štimac, MD, a psychiatrist and subspecialist of child and adolescent psychiatry and Deputy of Centre’s Director, Sc.D. Bruna Profaca, a psychologist and the Head of diagnostics and treatment and Vanja Slijepčević, Saftić, MD, a paediatrician and subspecialist of child neurology. This was an opportunity to learn about the specificities of child protection in the USA and Croatia, exchange of experience and results of recent studies as well as discussion of other topics relevant in child protection. Possibilities of further cooperation between Croatian and American experts were also explored.
At the same time, Sc. D. Kairys was presented with the Brave Phone work.
