Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy and the Psychological Association of Osijek organised of the scientific and professional conference about violence ‘Violence and Mental Health – Interdisciplinary Approach.

After the welcoming speech of the Deputy Dean prof. dr sc. Marija Omazić and the Croatian Ombudsman for Children Mila Jelavić, special awards were given to Gordana Buljan Flander and to the senior lecturer dr. sc. Anđelka Metzing for significant merits in the establishment and development of conferences about violence. Prof. Metzing, the founder of the Conference and the Department of Psychology in Osijek, thanked on behalf of both, emphasizing that it all started in 2003 when the first generation of psychology students entered the Faculty.

The three-day Conference offered plenty of interesting events, lectures, round tables, symposia about violence, abuse and neglect of children. A series of handbooks was presented, as well as presentations and poster presentations on the topic.

Besides many psychologists, other professionals – educators, social pedagogues, social workers, criminologists, doctors and experts from helping professions also participated due to the emphasis on interdisciplinary approach.

This, now traditional, Conference was held at the Faculty of Philosophy under high auspices of the Croatian Ombudsman for Children Mila Jelavić. The Conference was organised by the Croatian Psychological Association and the Croatian Psychological Chamber.
