European Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect was held in Amsterdam from 21 to 23 May 2014. Dr. Domagoj Štimac, child psychiatrist, deputy director of the Child Protection Center of Zagreb participated in the Conference.
Presenting the multidisciplinary approach of the Child Protection Center
Dr. Štimac delivered the presentation: “Analysis of some psychosocial indicators of sexually abused children”. Co-authors of the presentation were prof. dr. sc. Gordana Buljan Flander, director of the Center and Ella Selak Bagarić of the Brave Phone. In his delivery, dr. Štimac presented our Center through the multidisciplinary approach to abused and neglected children.
The aim of the Conference was, above all, to present the most contemporary review of professional and scientific knowledge in this field and, by gathering international participants, to create opportunities for the establishment of co-operation and professional relations among various professionals from different countries. A large number of professionals from the field of child abuse and neglect, like paediatricians, psychologists, social workers and attorneys participated in the Conference.
Conference program included a wide range of themes, from the medical aspects of child physical abuse and neglect, to ethics, sexual abuse, institutional abuse, psychotrauma diagnosing and treatment, judicial issues, prevention, neurobiology, and similar.
Fifteen years of the Brave Phone
Ella Selak Bagarić, psychologist, talked on “Primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention – a fifteen-year experience of the Brave Phone”. Co-authors of the presentation were prof. dr. sc. Gordana Buljan Flander, Hana Hrpka, psychologist, president of the Brave Phone and prof.dr.sc. Vesna Bilić of the Teachers College, University of Zagreb.
