Croatian Psychiatric Nurses and Technicians Society organised XV Psychiatric Society Days under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Social Care and the Psychiatric Hospital of Rab with the title 'Consequences of abuse as a psychiatric issue', May 7-9, 2009 on island Rab. Renata Ćorić, psychologist of the Center for Child Protection of Zagreb participates with a talk titled 'Approach to the individual, the victim of abuse'.
Psychological Society of Republika Srpska and UNICEF organized the conference „Psychology and Law in protection of the best interes of the child“, held 12 and 13 October 2017 in Banja Luka, Bosna and Herzegovina. Director of Child and Youth Protection Center of Zagreb, prof. Gordana Buljan Flander, PhD, was invited to give a presentation „Forensic Interview with children victims of criminal offenses – Psychological and Legal Aspects“, as part of the lecture was shown NICHD protocol of conducting interviews with child victims and witnesses in investigations. Center`s director prof. Gordana Buljan Flander and psychologist trainee Ana Raguž participated at the conference.
Conference participants were mostly psychologists, lawyers, prosecutors and judges, as well as representatives of all relevant institutions and organizations and also individuals who have contributed to improving access to children in judicial proceedings. The largest number of presentations at the conference focused on importance of psychological practice in investigative procedures with children witnesses. The conference also promoted the book “Child in the Judicial Procedure: A Psychological Approach” („Dijete u pravosudnom postupku: psihološki pristup“) by authors Sanja Radetić Lovrić and Olga Lola Ninković.
In conclusion, prof.dr.sc. Gordana Buljan Flander emphasized the importance of conducting forensic interviews by trained examiners according to scientifically established protocols in order to simultaneously obtain quality testimonies and protect the rights of child victims injudical proceedings.
