From November 29 to December 1, 2017, an international conference on “Domestic Violence and Other Forms of Gender-Based Violence: A Step to Live without Violence” was held in Zagreb. The invited lecturers participated in this conference were Prof. Dr. Sc. Gordana Buljan Flander and Dr. Sc. Bruna Profaca.

The conference was organized jointly by partner organizations within the international project FIRST – Capacity building for the first contact points for victims of family and gender-based violence. The project is implemented with the financial support of the Program of Rights, Equality and Citizenship of the European Union, the Office of the Government of the Republic of Croatia for NGOs and the National Foundation for Civil Society Development. The organizers of the partnership organization are: ISA institute, Slovenia; Center for Women Victims of War -ROSA, Croatia; AIRE Center, United Kingdom; Dynamic Center, Bulgaria; SOS Telephone for Women and Children – Victims of Violence, Slovenia; Association of Social Workers, Slovenia and B2 d.o.o, Slovenia.

Professor Buljan Flander presented the topic “What do we need to know to provide adequate assistance and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse?” In her presentation she presented the latest theoretical insights from this area, as well as examples of good practice in protecting and assisting child victims as well as guidelines for working with children after the disclosure of domestic violence and abuse. Dr. Sc. Bruna Profaca held a lecture on “Treatment of Trauma of Child Abuse” in which she presented a model of working with traumatized children after the trauma of abuse in order to establish new child safety.

The conference was an opportunity to establish multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral co-operation with all those working with families and encountering family violence. More about this conference, program and lecturers is available at
