As part of its work, the Archdiocesan Center for Youth Pastoral John Paul II. organizes and implements various seminars and trainings, bringing experts in the field of psychology and psychotherapy, so that professors, social workers, students, educators and volunteers get acquainted with the correct way to recognize violence and prevent it.

In line with child protection efforts, NCM staff has designed a whole project called Because We Care – Child Protection Education for three years.

The aim of the project is to educate all persons involved in the work of the John Paul II Youth Center, as well as other Catholic church institutions and other governmental and non-governmental organizations and persons working in direct contact with children, on measures and ways to protect children.

Through the project, cooperation was established with lecturers from the Institute for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy BHIDAPA, through which they came into contact with Professor Gordana Buljan Flander, director and initiator of the Zagreb Child and Youth Protection Center.

Also, the realization is the cooperation with the organization World vision in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Worth noting campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of violence prevention and neglect of children today.

That is why, based on the vision, mission and values of the Youth Center and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), a document was adopted, the Child Protection Protocol, condemning all forms of abuse and exploitation of children, inside or outside the Center. for young people John Paul II.

All employees, whether directly or indirectly related to the activities of our organization, are required to respect the same.

Due to the importance of this problem, every person who is a friend of the Youth Center will be familiar with the document, or at least with the essential points that can help identify violence and respond properly.

What are the key values ​​to be guided in creating and maintaining a caring and protective environment?

– You should always react as soon as the fear arises – if you feel any fear related to possible or actual abuse of the child – you are obliged to report it to someone. Any doubt should be expressed!

– It is necessary to know that the child is a priority and that the protection of children is always the most important. All decisions, within the process of reporting and taking action, must be made in the best interests of the child.

– In the event of an incident and suspicion of child protection, timely and appropriate action should be taken. All information can only be given to experts who are required to be informed.
