Free and available: a mobile app for the promotion of youth mental health and prevention of anxiety and depression “Stella”

Dear youth, dear parents,

As we face the pandemic of the virus, but also other disasters that have hit Croatia in recent days, we must take greater care of ourselves and others, not only our physical but also our mental health. At a time when we all need each other, when everyone needs and means support, care, understanding and comfort, it is important that physical distance does not mean social – that we are gentle on ourselves and others.

That is why we decided to recommend something free and immediately available to our young people and parents – Stella is an educational and interactive mobile app aimed at protecting mental health and preventing anxiety and depression in young people.

Stella primarily provides basic mental health information and skills to increase self-esteem and cope with common negative emotional states during adolescence, such as anxiety and depression. The Stella app, designed for young people ages 11-18 and their parents/carers, contains materials based on a cognitive-behavioral approach that has been proven effective for milder forms of anxiety and depression in children and young people.

The application was created in collaboration with mental health professionals and is designed based on an educational part where young people can learn a lot of useful information and self-help techniques. The second part of the application exercises through which the techniques of self-control and understanding of one’s emotions for the purpose of mental health protection are adopted. Most importantly, the application directs young people with more pronounced mental health difficulties to seek professional help from doctors and / or mental health professionals and to consult on its use during the treatment of mental disorders by professionals.

For all the advice to our patients, we are available by phone and email.

And what do our Youth Board who we asked to try the app say?

“The app is amazingly easy to use! The thing that is otherwise very complicated is very well summarized and described, and it is much easier to solve the problem if you can identify and break it down into smaller parts. An in-app drawing is a cool. ”

“The tips are beautifully written and explained, there are many things that can help!”

“Honestly, as soon as I see the adults doing an application for us, I have an attitude that it will be boring and weird. This surprised me, there are some helpful hints and explanations. I’ll leave it to myself. “
