Living with one parent in one home and visiting another parent in another home can be confusing at the beginning. However, it can also be new and exciting experience. The first thing to do is to get organised:

  • Make a list of things you wish to have in both homes. Check the list every time you switch homes. Ask both parents for help.
  • Try to have things like a toothbrush, hairbrush, your favourite shampoo, pyjamas and spare clothes in both homes.
  • Have your personal things like toys, games, books, CDs and other accessories in both homes.
  • If your parents have different rules or ways of life, it is important to keep in mind that you have to respect the rules parents apply in their homes. However, if you think that their behaviour and requirements are not right, say it frankly.
