Council of Europe Conference on ‘The well-being of children as an indicator for the well-being of society’, within the “One in Five” campaign was held on 11 June 2013 in Baku in Azerbaijan, where dr Domagoj Štimac, psychiatrist, sub specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and Deputy Director of Child Protection Center of Zagreb, presented the work of the Center.

The Conference was held with the purpose of sharing experience and opinions on various and the most efficient ways of stopping sexual abuse of children as well as the promotion of the development of relevant legislation, rules and policies in Azerbaijan and other member countries of the Council of Europe.

Sharing experience of international experts’ good practice

A number of international experts were at the Conference to share experience of good practice in this area. Various participants in Azerbaijan society, like government representatives, parliamentarians and representatives of the civil society also attended the Conference.

The main aim of this regional conference, and the main aim of the campaign is to encourage signing, ratification and implementation of the Lanzarote Convention (2007) on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. The aim is also to empower children, parents, professionals and the society on the whole with the necessary knowledge and tools to prevent, report and stop sexual abuse of children, as well as to raise public awareness of this problem in general.
