Cooperation between Center’s experts and Children’s Ombudsman
Director of the Center, Prof. Gordana Buljan Flander, PhD and Center’s multidisciplinary team had a meeting with Ombudsman for Children, Ivana Milas Klarić, PhD, Assisstant Professor, Deputy Ombudsman for Children, Maja Gabelica Šupljika, MSc and Adviser to the Ombudsman for Children, Davorka Osmak Franjić. The aim of the meeting was to discuss current issues and continue with good practices in the protection of the best interest and benefit of the child.
The Center was also represented by Deputy Director of the Center, Domagoj Štimac, MD, Psychiatrist, subspecialist of child and adolescent psychiatry, the Head of Diagnostics and Treatment, Bruna Profaca, PhD, Psychologist, Vanja Slijepčević Saftić, PhD, MD, a Paediatrician, subspecialist in child neurology, Dora Kralj, Social Educator, Nikolina Škrlec, Social Worker, and Zdravko Miočević, Jurist. The Brave Phone was represented by Hana Hrpka, the President of this association.
Discussed issues included the protection of children against re-traumatiosation in suspected abuse, hearing children in various institutions and the role of the Center in such procedures. The protection of children in kindergartens and schools in some specific situations encountered by professionals was also discussed.
Good cooperation between the Center and Children’s Ombudsman and concerted action were emphasised. The Ombudsman was introduced to the premisses and professional capacities of the Center, to recent trends in the profession within the health system and to the cooperation between the Center and other institutions working in child protection. The Ombudsman was also presented with Center’s cooperation with European institutions, where the Center is considered to be an example of best practice.
